Biography
Md. Maruf Hossain Shuvo is a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso. His research interests include machine learning, biomedical signal and image analysis, integrated circuit design, deep learning, edge intelligence, and biomedical electronics. Previously, he served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor in the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Bangladesh, from 2015 to 2019. Dr. Shuvo was the recipient of the University Gold Medal from KUET, the Prime Minister's Gold Medal from the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh, and the Outstanding Ph.D. Student Award from the College of Engineering, University of Missouri.

Ph.D. Research Associate
Md Rifatul Islam is a doctoral student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program, starting in Spring 2025. He completed a B.Sc. degree in Mechatronics and Industrial Engineering from Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Bangladesh, in 2022. His research interests include medical image analysis, multimodal language models, trustworthy AI, and edge AI for developing biomedical solutions.
Ph.D. Teaching Assistant
Samiul Bari is a doctoral student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program, starting in Fall 2025. He completed a B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST), Bangladesh, in 2024. His research interests include digital twins for healthcare, generative AI on edge, wearables, and AI-embedded medical devices.
Ph.D. Research Associate
Fariza Siddiqua is a doctoral student in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program, starting in Fall 2025. She completed a B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), Bangladesh, in 2023. Her research interests include AI hardware and systems, hardware acceleration of sequence models, efficient deep learning, and LLMs for hardware design.
MS Student
Adrian H. Morales is an MS student in the Computer Engineering program at UTEP. He completed a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UTEP in 2024. He is working on edge AI, rehabilitation exercise monitoring, and real-time human activity recognition.
Matthew Amezaga is a senior undergraduate student in the Computer Engineering program. He is currently working as an undergraduate research assistant in the EBMI lab. His research interests include edge AI, machine learning, signal processing and classification. His senior project is using an AI model to classify EEG signals in order to operate an embedded system.
Orion Wood is a senior undergraduate student in the Computer Engineering program. His research interests include embedded AI, efficient deep learning, and hardware-software co-design. He is working on deep learning for sleep apnea detection using wearables.
